Today we were given our first journalism assignment. Each team was given a topic that they would have to create into both a news video and a written story. My team was given the SARAS program to cover. The SARAS program is a three- week biomedical program here at Stony Brook. Everyone in our team was given certain roles to successfully complete the assignment. I was the photographer for the interview which was a lot of fun and it gave me a feel for what it would be like to be a photojournalist.
After arriving to the Medical Center on the other side of campus, we were offered gyros and then commenced with the interview. We were lucky enough to meet Dr. Pentyala, the founder and main teacher of the SARAS program.
We were able to pull off the interview and get enough footage to bring back to the newsroom. We looked through our footage and photos and got cracking on our story and video. Then, we took a break for dinner and came back to the news room to learn how to edit our footage using Final Cut Pro. At 9 p.m., we returned to our dorm and a few of us decided to go to karaoke which was a lot of fun and we got to be in the AC!
